Just after noon on Sunday, Central Precinct officers responded to the Oregon Zoo parking lot, on the report of a man sitting in a vehicle holding a handgun.

Several officers responded to the area and located 29-year-old Ryan Alexander Stratford sitting in a black 2005 Volkswagen Jetta in the parking lot. Officers located the vehicle and ordered Stratford to put his hands out the window. Stratford complied and was taken into custody without incident.

Officers located two replica firearms that were plastic BB guns with detachable magazines. Additionally officers located a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle.

Stratford was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree and Possession of Less than an Ounce of Marijuana and booked into the Multnomah County Jail.

Although the firearms in this incident were determined to be BB guns, the Portland Police Bureau encourages community members who observe suspicious behavior involving firearms to immediately call 9-1-1 so that officers can respond an insure community safety.
