A large black bear was roaming through northeast Portland early Wednesday morning.  A resident called 911 around 3:15 a.m. to report seeing the bear near Northeast 38th and Killingsworth.  Then police also spotted it.

It ran up a tree near Northeast 35th and Killingsworth, but came down and ran toward a crowd of reporters and bystanders sending them running.

The bear went up a large cedar tree near Northeast 37th and Jessup.  An Oregon Fish and Wildlife officer fired a tranquilizer dart at the bear and it was knocked out.

Portland Fire Bureau crews used ropes to lower it to the ground.  The bear was placed in a trailer cage and will be relocated to a forest outside of Portland.
