Just after midnight Monday a Fairview Police Officer attempted a traffic stop near NE 223rd and NW Townsend Way.  The driver fled.  The vehicle continued north bound on NE 223RD Avenue reaching speeds in excess of 70 miles per hour. At one point, the vehicle came to a dead end road on NE 223rd Avenue and Marine Drive. The driver of the vehicle drove his car directly at the officer as he attempted to stop the vehicle. The officer fired his duty weapon at the vehicle to avoid being struck by the vehicle.  None of the bullet rounds struck the vehicle.  The officer was not injured during the incident.

The vehicle then continued south bound on NE 223rd Avenue traveling recklessly.  Other officers from surrounding agencies assisted in the pursuit of the suspect vehicle.  Officers discontinued the pursuit as the vehicle continued to drive reckless on NE 223rd north of NE Sandy Blvd.  The suspect driver proceeded to make a left turn from south bound NE 223rd Avenue to east bound NE Sandy Blvd.  The driver of the suspect vehicle lost control of the vehicle during this turning movement and struck a Multnomah County Sheriff Deputies marked patrol car at the intersection.  A Sheriff Deputy was injured as a result of the crash.  The Sheriff Deputy is currently being treated for non life threatening injuries he sustained in the crash.  The suspect driver was not injured; however the female adult passenger in the car was seriously injured. She is currently being treated for the injuries she sustained during the crash. It is unknown at this time what the extent of her injuries is going to be. The suspect driver in this incident was taken into custody for traffic related felony offenses.  Further investigation is pending

The East Multnomah County Major Crimes Team and East Multnomah County Vehicle Crash Team are currently investigating the incident. The identity of the people involved in this incident has not been released at this time.  Their identities will be released at the conclusion of this investigation.
