Hiker Swept Away Near Mt. Hood
Posted August 13th, 2014 @ 3:22am

A thunderstorm on Mt. Hood Tuesday dumped so much rain it caused a flash flood on the Sandy River.  The river rose four feet in a short amount of time.

A 35-year-old man hiking near Ramona Falls was on a foot bridge when it was swept away.  His body was found a mile downstream.  His name hasn't been released.  Deputies say he was not from the local area.

With the bridge washed out, 23 hikers were stranded on the other side of the river.  A Clackamas County water rescue team used an inflatable raft and rope system to ferry them across the river.
