Demi Lovato 'Crushed' As She Honors Friend Who Died From Addiction

March For Our Lives In Washington, DC

Demi Lovato is “crushed” over learning one of her friends passed away from addiction. The 27-year-old took to Instagram Wednesday night (October 9) to mourn her departed friend Thomas and remind followers to talk to their loved ones about substance abuse.

“Devastated. Please hold your loved ones tight. Tell them they are special and that you love them,” the “Tell Me You Love Me” songbird wrote with a black-and-white image of Thomas in an Instagram Story. “Make sure they know it. RIP to my boo @sirtruss 🖤🖤🖤.”

“Addiction is NO joke.. heaven gained this beautiful angel last night because of that terrible disease,” she continued in another post. “I’m crushed and will always miss you @sirtruss. If you or someone you know is struggling please know it’s okay to ask for help.”

The news of Thomas’ passing is sure to strike a chord with the songstress, who, just last year, suffered a near-fatal overdose amid an addiction battle of her own in July 2018. Thankfully, Lovato found her footing months later, got sober, and has remained clean since October 2018.

“Today I would’ve had 7 years sober,” she reflected on March 15, which would have been her seventh sober anniversary. “I don’t regret going out because I needed to make those mistakes but I must never forget that’s exactly what they were: mistakes.”

“If you’ve relapsed and are afraid to get help again, just know it’s possible to take that step towards recovery,” Lovato added. “If you’re alive today, you can make it back. You’re worth it.”

One year after the scary episode, the "Games" star marked her milestone surrounded by love and in the company of friends over dinner in West Hollywood.
