A suspect Portland Police were trying to arrest hit a K9 with a metal pipe.
Wednesday afternoon, the suspect ran into a vacant apartment in Northwest Portland. He was armed with a large bladed weapon.
When he tried to escape, he was confronted by a police K9. The dog was hit with a pipe, but not injured. Harcos detained the suspect until police could arrest him.
During the standoff, he also destroyed a drone police used to search the apartment.
The suspect was taken to a hospital for a precautionary medical check and then arrested.
Following the investigation, and after he was cleared medically at the hospital, Joshua R. Kuras, 33, of Portland, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Menacing, Burglary in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree (2 counts), Interfering with a Law Enforcement Animal, Attempted Animal Abuse in the Second Degree, and Escape in the Third Degree.
