If "that can't be good for you" is your reason for not eating insects - you may need a new reason. According to a new clinical trial (University of Wisconsin, Madison), consuming crickets can have a positive impact on your gut health and reduce inflammation in the body. The study examined 20 healthy adults, aged 18 to 48, over a six-week period in order to assess the effects of eating cricket powder. What researchers discovered after analyzing the results is that, although participants reported no significant gastrointestinal changes, there was an increase in a metabolic enzyme associated with gut health as well as an abundance good bacteria (Bifidobacterium animalis) in the gut.
Respondents said the only real side effect was an urge to rub their legs together at dusk. Okay, we made that one up - but thanks for reading below the picture!
