On Monday, K103 listener Natalya Gilchrist from Tualatin managed to stump Bruce with this question:
Question: In 1520, when Magellan sailed around the bottom of South America, he sighted large fires on the shore and gave the name, Tierra Del Fuego, to the region. That's Spanish for Land of Fire. What were the fires all about?
Answer: They were large fires which the local Indians used to warm themselves.
