February 22nd is National Margarita Day, a day to pay homage to my favorite Tequila drink. The Traditional Margarita is made with triple sec, tequila, and lime juice, and was created in 1938 in Mexico. A lot of people consider it the official drink of having fun. It’s always 5 o’clock somewhere, right? I prefer a Skinny Margarita, on the rocks with salt which is different than the Traditional in that a skinny margarita is a low-calorie version, instead of using an orange-liqueur like triple sec, Cointreau or Grand-Marnier, a Skinny Margarita uses fresh orange juice and a small amount of agave nectar and lots of fresh-squeezed lime juic. Whether they're shaken or frozen and blended like a slushy, they're all game on National Margarita Day...and there are deals to be had around the Portland-Metro!
