I Know That Song! The One Katy Perry Got Blamed For Ripping Off

Hi and thanks for checking out our page. If you're new to our show we have fun every morning around 7:10 finding behind the scenes facts and little known tidbits about the songs you know and love.

Today’s artist explained in a video interview that the lyrics were inspired by a close friend who is struggling with coming out. "There is so much honor and integrity and beauty in being able to be who you are," she explained

On August 10, 2013, approximately four months after the release of today’s song, Katy Perry released a single titled "Roar". Shortly after that release, fans of today’s singer took Perry to task on social media, implying "Roar" sonically plagiarized today’s song.

Today's singer told Billboard magazine that she and Perry spoke about it "I don't feel like anything was taken from me artistically. I wasn't the one having any problems with it," she said. "I've known Katy a long time. We are friends and she and I spoke about it. I look at it as two female artists who are releasing a message of empowerment."

Watch the video and decide for yourself:

Today’s Grammy winning artist describes her sound as "piano-based pop soul" and many compare her to Regina Spektor, Fiona Apple and Billy Joel

She’s no stranger to tv. She served as a judge in the third season of the NBC singing competition series The Sing-Off, played Mary Magdalene in the LIVE NBC production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

And just last year she and JJ Abrams created for Apple TV+ a show entitled Little Voice. She recorded the Little Voice theme song and then released an album titled More Love: Songs from Little Voice Season One with her own recordings of songs from the series.

Also, her version of “Both Sides Now’ from the Oscars, always makes Mike cry.

Sara Bareilles' Brave is todays song. Now you can say "I Know That Song!"
