I Know That Song! The One Kelly Clarkson Says Is About "A Dipstick" Ex

Be keeping track of the songs this week, Friday we’ll ask you to name the theme to win free lunch from Jersey Mikes.

Today’s song is the second single from this singer turned talk show host’s second album Breakaway, which sold over 12 million copies worldwide and won two Grammy Awards.

She rose to fame for winning the first season of American Idol in 2002, which earned her a record deal. Her debut single, "A Moment Like This", topped the US Billboard Hot 100 and became the country's best selling single of 2002.

Following a break-up with ex-Evanescence member David Hodges, today’s singer wrote this song's lyrics from the gut. He went on to marry someone else a month later and she says that the relationship ended horribly. "It's a shame. I'm friends with my two other ex-boyfriends, and it's a shame because we probably won't ever be able to be."

She was a little more succinct later when she put it this way: “the song was about a dipstick who completely screwed up and now is unhappy." She says that this song is her favorite song on the album.

It peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed inside the top 10 in the chart for 15 weeks, a record for the longest time spent in the top 10 for a song that did not hit top five

This singer has sold over 25 million albums and 45 million singles worldwide. She has been a coach on The Voice and since 2019, has hosted her own talk show.

Among her numerous awards, she has received three MTV Video Music Awards, four American Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music Awards, and three Daytime Emmy Awards.

All of those awards have made her the first artist in history to top each of Billboard's pop, adult contemporary, adult pop, country, and dance charts.

It’s Kelly Clarkson…Behind These Hazel Eyes…on K103’s I Know That Song!
