There's a new trend to safely get kids to school emerging…and parents are loving it. In Salt Lake City, parents are organizing a “bike bus.” The concept, which was started in NE Portland last April by Alameda Elementary School physical education teacher Sam Balto, involves students and chaperones riding bikes to school together, promoting a healthy lifestyle, community engagement and improved air quality.
As we said, the idea has spread to Utah where organizer Trina Perez says The streets are for all of us. She was inspired by several videos on social media of successful “bike bus” groups in other cities, including Portland.
Trina says that kids absolutely love it and it is a solid way to bring families and communities together
The Utah group has even set up a GoFundMe page so they can buy bikes for kids who don’t have them.
