Ray and Jean MacKay of Nova Scotia, just celebrated an incredible milestone: 75 years of marriage. The couple tied the knot back on August 16, 1950, in a little white church followed by a lantern-lit reception in a community with no electricity or running water at the time.
Jean still laughs about how Ray showed up late to the ceremony, making the 7:00 wedding start closer to 7:30. Now, at 96 and 102 years old, the pair are still sharing smiles, jokes, and music…Ray is known locally as one of Canada’s oldest church organists.
To mark their diamond anniversary, the MacKays were showered with cards and plenty of visitors at the home where they’ve spent decades together. With four children, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, they say they’re simply grateful for their health and family.
Asked about the secret to a marriage that has lasted three-quarters of a century, Jean summed it up. “No secret, just patience,” Jean said. “And keep on trucking.”
