More than 26 years after Bob Sheppard’s parents mailed him a postcard from Copenhagen, that weathered little card finally arrived at his home in Long Beach, California.
By the time Bob found it in his mailbox, both of his parents had passed away and because pandemic restrictions kept him from properly saying goodbye to his father, seeing their handwriting again was especially emotional.
No one knows where the postcard spent all those years. It may have slipped behind a desk or cabinet somewhere in the postal system before finally continuing its journey. But for Bob, the mystery matters far less than the timing.
His parents loved traveling the world, and as Bob beautifully put it, the surprise felt almost like “a postcard from heaven.”
