Heather Lundberg Green wanted to do something special for her 20-year-old son, Adrian Brown , who has recently come out as transgender. In the end, everyone loves a party - so she decided to throw him a gender reveal party.
And as you might've guessed, there were balloons, confetti, and a big teddy bear. Pretty much all the usual trappings of an extravagant gender reveal photo shoot. Green explains that she didn’t just want to support the journey; she wanted to celebrate it.
That's exactly what she did last month, when Adrian turned 20 - even sharing pics on her Facebook page - which soon when viral. Posing in a fake belly bump with blue balloons, she had Adrian lay next to a teddy bear swaddled in a blanket. He thought his mom was a bit crazy with the idea but fully embraced it.
He also wasn't expecting the kind of response he received online about it either. Aside from the fact that people have been overwhelmingly supportive, Brown's story ended up saving another student's life who came out to his parents after seeing the post. The student had been contemplating suicide. “A trans boy came out to his parents after seeing our post,” Brown said. “He had been considering suicide before coming out to them and because of our message he had the courage to tell them and found out that his parents were going to support them. He would not have had the courage had we not taken these photos.”
