Bait Package Program Nabs Thief In Aloha

An Amazon driver was arrested, after admitting he stole a bait package off a porch in Aloha Sunday night.

Detective Robert Rookhuyzen with the Washington County Sheriff's Office, says this is their fourth year of the bait package program, where they have several bait packages placed throughout the county. Rookhuyzen says it's to deter possible thieves and to catch those who steal during the holiday season.

Rookhuyzen says in this case, an alarm was activated once the package was taken from a home's porch near SW Tualatin Valley Highway and 170th Avenue. They used GPS technology to track the package to a car in the area.

Deputies then arrested the Amazon driver, identified as 29-year-old Perez Johnson, who they say admitted to stealing the bait package while delivering another shipment to the same address. Deputies found a total of 18 Amazon packages inside Johnson's car that were awaiting delivery.

Deputies personally delivered the remaining packages found to their addresses to avoid any delay in receipt.

Johnson is facing a charge of theft in the second degree.
