Reward Offered For Dog Wounded In Shooting

The Oregon Humane Society is seeking the public’s assistance in the case of a stray dog who was shot and injured in Clackamas County.

A $500 reward is being offered for information leading to the suspect’s arrest and conviction.

The 3-5-year-old female, medium-sized poodle/terrier mix was found on Aug. 11 by a hill off Hwy. 224, close to the Promontory campground. She was rescued by a family who had stopped to watch a meteor shower when the injured, bloody dog, approached them. They immediately took the dog to a local emergency vet clinic for treatment. The dog, named Bear by veterinarians, did not have a microchip and wasn’t wearing any identification.

It appears Bear was shot in the face, breaking her jaw and fracturing teeth. A wound on her chest is consistent with a bullet exiting her body. She has additional wounds on her face and neck.

Because of the severity and complexity of Bear’s wounds, Clackamas County Dog Services reached out to OHS to continue her medical treatment and open an investigation.

“It’s hard to imagine the kind of pain that Bear has endured,” says Leon Colas, OHS Vice President of Humane Investigations and Law Enforcement. “We are hopeful that someone knows something about who did this.”

Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to call (503) 802-6707 or submit information online.

Bear continues to receive care at the OHS Medical Center and is not available for adoption.
