For September, Stacey & Mike’s Helping Hands is highlighting the Sunnyside Shower Project, a volunteer-powered community effort serving unhoused and housing-insecure neighbors in Southeast Portland. Their work is built around something simple but deeply important: giving people access to free showers, hygiene supplies, clean clothing, laundry support, and compassionate, low-barrier care. The project describes itself as rooted in care, connection, and respect, with the belief that hygiene is not a luxury...it is a basic human need.
The Sunnyside Shower Project serves people who may not have steady access to a bathroom, clean clothes, laundry, or the everyday dignity many of us can easily take for granted. Guests can schedule 30-minute shower appointments, and walk-up showers are also available on a first-come, first-served basis. Just as important, the project creates a place where people are welcomed as neighbors, not problems to be solved, and where volunteers help offer practical support with kindness and respect.
You can support Stacey & Mike’s Helping Hands this month by helping the Sunnyside Shower Project continue this important work. Make a donation or learn more about volunteering. Every gift and every volunteer hour helps provide care, comfort, and dignity to neighbors who need it most.
