I Know That Song! The One Inspired By "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest"

Often misconstrued to be about a man returning home, this singer has stated that the song's lyrics refer to a patient in a mental institution, and that he was inspired by the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which was a book written by Oregon writer, Ken Kesey and was made into a movie filmed in Salem starring Jack Nicholson.

This song is one of this artist’s favorite songs and is typically the last song he plays in concert. In 2003 the hip-hop group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony heavily sampled the song for their single "Home." Their version reached #19 in the UK (the same as the original version), and today’s singer appeared in the video.

"Bone Thugs-N-Harmony called me up and said, 'We've done a version of your song [Take Me Home] and we'd like you to be in the video.' I said, 'No, I'm not in America.' But then I heard the song, and I quite liked it, and they agreed to come to Geneva. How could I disappoint these guys? They were nice lads." (CLIP)

This was originally only released in the UK in 1985. But It was released in the US in 1986, only after this singer appeared in the TV series ‘Miami Vice.’

Today’s singer asked Sting to provide backing vocals for this song, which also features his former bandmate Peter Gabriel on backing vocals.

Today’s artist remains one of the world's best selling artists since he rose to fame in the early 80’s with his band. Between the band and his solo career, he posted more Top40 songs on the chart in the 80’s than any other artist.

He’s still performing despite effectively retiring in 2007 when he announced the heartbreaking news that due to complications from nerve damage, his ability to play the drums was drastically affected.

But... his former band announced a tour WITH him in March of last year.

Of course the band had to postpone due to the pandemic but just bassist/guitarist announced yesterday they may be back playing in the US by November of this year on their “Last Domino” tour.

That band was Genesis, the man Phil Collins, Take Me Home. I know that song!
