Tinashe prides herself on being individualistic, and not fitting into a "particular box." So, it might surprise you that she once felt self-conscious about her natural curly hair.
The singer/songwriter/dancer is opening up about being bold and embracing her curls in a new interview. As she says, "I'm a very bold person. My hair definitely reflects my individuality and my uniqueness."
Tinashe first became self-conscious of her air after a schoolmate once told her that she looked "way better" after she showed up to school with straight hair.
"One time in particular, I straightened my hair for the very first time, and I wore it school, and one guy said to me, 'Wow! You look way better.' And I remember that stuck out in my memory for a really long time, and made me really self-conscious about my curly hair for a lot of years. Eventually, I learned to love it. So now, I love my curly hair. Curly haired girls rock. Be bold."
No doubt, Tinashe definitely embraces her hair in all types of styles now, and explains that she communicates how she's feeling through how she wears her hair, and is not afraid to break down any barriers.
"I think as an artist, people definitely notice that I don't fit into a particular box. I think that's something that I've always worked to break down the barriers, and the rules, and the limitations that we put on ourselves. Sometimes, I feel a little bit more high-energy, sometimes I feel a little bit more laid back, sometimes I feel sexy, sometimes I feel fun. And I like to be able to play into all of those different sides of my personality as an artist."
