Oregonians Age 65 And Over, Educators May Get COVID Vaccines Next

If you're an educator or a person over the age of 65 in Oregon, you'll be next to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Gov. Kate Brown announced that the next groups allowed to be vaccinated will include educators and people aged 65 and older. Educators include child care providers, early learning professionals and K-12 teachers. They can get the vaccine starting as early as January 23, according to the governor's office.

State leaders say they're expecting more shipments of vaccines from the federal government. While Brown said she's ready to deploy all resources needed to get more people vaccinated, she asked for patience.

"Oregon is ready to devote all resources necessary to ramp up distribution with our health care partners. The Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon National Guard have already begun working with hospitals, pharmacies, and local public health partners to ensure Oregon seniors and educators have ready access to a vaccine," the governor said.

Alex Azar, the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, said this week the government will stop holding back second doses of vaccines, which expanded supply. He also urged states to vaccinate other groups, such as people age 65 and older and those with certain health conditions.
