Stacey & Mike's Happy News: PDX Tow Truck Driver Rescues 20 Stranded

Thanks to Jeff in Portland for this one...you may have seen it on KGW this past week.

A Portland man is being hailed as a good Samaritan for springing to action after he helped free 20 drivers who were stranded on an icy road during last week’s storm.

Alec Higley found himself stuck on an icy Portland off-ramp during the snowstorm last Wednesday night and called his friend, Jon Gilbert, who owns Honest Jon’s Auto.

Alec called him from Northeast 82nd Avenue and Columbia Boulevard. Higley and more than 20 other drivers were stranded there on the icy off-ramp.

He loaded up his truck with tow straps and shackles and headed down to the area where Higley's and 20 other cars were stuck.

Jon brought food and when he saw the other stranded drivers, he decided to help them too. He freed several sedans, minivans and even a pick-up truck.

Gilbert worked until 6:00 a.m. to free more than 20 vehicles.
