Stacey & Mike's Happy News: Oregon UPS Driver Collects Donations For Turkey

The images of earthquake damage out of Turkey are hard for us to see, but for Murat Yavuz, they’re especially painful. He grew up not far from the Turkish earthquake sites and has been a UPS driver in Oregon since he came to the U.S. in 2009.

Murat organized a supply drive, collecting 16 pallets of badly needed items; things like hygiene supplies, sleeping bags and tents. He was able to get volunteers to load up UPS trucks and take them to Seattle, to be flown to Turkey.

Best of all, he convinced UPS to cover the shipping costs…and UPS made a million dollar donation to humanitarian efforts in Turkey. Murat received a thank you video last weekend from people who received the donations. In the video, a little girl clung to a little stuffed animal.

Murat got emotional, saying he remembered loading the little toy up along with the rest of the supplies.
