Portland offers a free summer shuttle bus will carry people from the east side and St. Johns to such hard-to-reach west side locations as Forest Park, Pittock Mansion, and the Oregon Zoo. It's a summer-long pilot program funded by ODOT because a "lack of accessible transit and distance have been significant barriers to many Portlanders trying to access and enjoy Forest and Washington parks.

Once you're at Washington Park you can visit the Oregon Zoo, Hoyt Arboretum, Japanese and Rose Test Gardens using the free Washington Park shuttle, available daily through September from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Zoo Nights, every Friday through August 21st, brings live local music on the lawn at 6:30 p.m. and activities from 5:30 p.m. Elephant ears (the kind you eat and the ones on the pachyderms), local beer, and wine make it a perfect summer outing for the whole family. This weekend's artist is Andy Stokes, ‘The Northwest King of Soul Music’.

At the Crystal Ballroom Sunday the Gay Prides Of Portland Pageant. This year’s theme, “Force of Nature,” challenges applicants to develop competitive drag-based performances that center their Pride. This event will crown this year’s Pride representatives.

The Original Practice Shakespeare Festival will perform Midsummer Midsommer at MT Tabor summit Saturday Night. The company uses the original practice techniques of Elizabethan England: limited rehearsal, scrolls in hand, audience interaction, and an onstage prompter. In Shakespeare’s Era, the audience knew the actors had not rehearsed and that the only context each had of the play was their own role on a scroll. The play was as fresh to the actors as it was to the audience.

Portland’s outdoor pools are now open. That includes Peninsula Outdoor Pool, Pier Pool, Sellwood, and Ida B. Wells-Barnett. Free swim lesson week is June 22 to June 26, sign your kids up Portland dot gov. Portland public pools are now recommending children under 14 be accompanied by an adult.

Planet Fitness is bringing back the High School Summer Pass. Teens can now sign up and work out free from June 1-August 31 at participating Planet Fitness locations in and around Portland. Ages 14-19 are eligible for the free pass.

Powell’s Summer Reading Challenge runs thru August 31, and all you need is a bingo card from any store’s entrance desk. Read five books in a row using the prompts, fill out strip #1 and turn it in for a $5 coupon, a sticker and prize entries. Finish the whole board for extra prizes and a grand‑prize raffle. Kids and adults have their own cards, and all locations participate.
