Emily Dickerson’s most treasured possession was a ring filled with her late father’s ashes. The high school senior says it was her way of having her father with her, who died when she was 7. But earlier this month, she looked down at her hand and realized her irreplaceable cremation ring was gone. On a trip to the beach, she was afraid of losing it in the water, so she put her rings in a Subway sandwich box.
She thought it would be a temporary safe place, but instead it ended up in the trash. She called the parks department, and left her heart breaking story. Amazingly, a parks supervisor went to the beach with two other staff members and went through 4 tons of trash in a 40 yard dumpster. It took hours, but they found it. In addition to teaching her a valuable lesson about protecting her keepsakes, Emily says she was struck by their kindness and will remember them forever.
