BEST PLACES TO VIEW FALL FOLIAGE

Portland’s fall color starts popping in October as maples, oaks and dogwoods shift from green to gold, orange and red. Peak timing varies, but the Farmers’ Almanac and Travel Oregon point to mid‑ to late October. In town, late October is usually reliable, with color lasting into early November. Some of our favorites include:

Portland Japanese Garden at Washington Park comes alive this time of year and if you don't take some pictures you'll kick yourself later. The colors are breathtaking.

Speaking of peak picture taking, Cathedral Park is an incredible backdrop in the fall against the St. John's Bridge.

Pittock Mansion. I mean, have you ever been? The sweeping views of this beautiful place we call home, plus the nearby hiking trails through the trees. Magical in the fall!

The living museum that is Hoyt Arboretum. With more species of shrubs and trees than any other arboretum in the country!
