Stacey & Mike's Happy News: Potato Surplus to Feed Thousands

What would you do with millions of potatoes? Manitoba farmer Isaiah Hofer faced exactly that problem recently.

Last year's weather made for a bumper crop of spuds. Usually a surplus can be sold off to fill shortfalls at other farms, but not when so many farmers are facing a surplus.

Isaiah considered using the potatoes for animal feed, but then he saw an email highlighting the work of a U.S.-based non-profit called the Farmlink Project.

A spokesperson for the charity said she couldn't believe her eyes when an email arrived offering 100 batches of potatoes…each weighing about 40,000 pounds.
