Margaret Qualley put blood, sweat and tears into her celebrated performance in The Substance, so much so that it took her a year to physically recover from her intense prosthetics.
On the January 13 episode of Josh Horowitz's podcast Happy Sad Confused, Qualley revealed that the prosthetics she had to wear while filming took a major toll on her skin and even caused them to change tactics on certain shots because they couldn't film her face due to the damage, per People.
"Like, at the end, when they're shooting up my skirt in the beginning credits, and it's like the palm trees all around and they have all these long lenses from the bottom, that's just because my face was so f---ed up by that time that they couldn't, like, shoot my face anymore."
Qualley said the prosthetics cause her face to break out, but she ended up using her acne to work in her favor while filming her next film Kinds of Kindness, in which she plays four different characters.
"So, you know the character that has all that acne? That was just my acne from the prosthetics," she said. "And I was like, 'Oh this is kind of perfect. I'm playing all these different characters — for one of them we'll use all my crazy prosthetic acne.' It took me probably a year to recover physically from all of it."
The 30-year-old actress earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance as did fellow Substance star Demi Moore, who took home her first award at the Globes earlier this month.
