Some of the most meaningful work in our city happens quietly, without fanfare, and this month we are proud to put that work front and center. As the March spotlight for Stacey and Mike’s Helping Hands, Portland Backpack is tackling one of the most urgent and often unseen challenges facing local families: weekend hunger for children. Their mission is simple and powerful. They provide food sacks to kids who are at risk of going without meals when school cafeterias are closed and access to food becomes uncertain.
By focusing on weekends, Portland Backpack fills a critical gap that many people do not realize exists. For a child, that sack of food means more than nutrition. It means stability, comfort, and the ability to return to school on Monday ready to learn. Just as important, the organization believes that engaging the community multiplies the impact. Volunteers, donors, and partners all become part of a network that reaches far beyond a single meal and helps create lasting support for local families.
This is exactly the kind of hands on, community powered effort that Stacey and Mike’s Helping Hands was created to elevate. Portland Backpack is not only reducing hunger. They are building connection, awareness, and real momentum around a problem we can solve together.
If you have been looking for a way to help close the hunger gap for kids in our own neighborhoods, this is your opportunity. Join us in supporting Portland Backpack during their March spotlight. Your time, your voice, and your donation all make a direct and measurable difference.
