All People Deserve Good Food!

At Stacey and Mike’s Helping Hands, we’re shining a light on something most people never think about: nutrition inside our prison system. Across the country, access to fresh, healthy food behind bars is limited, and the impact is real. Studies show incarcerated individuals are significantly more likely to experience food-related illness and poor nutrition, which can affect both physical and mental health. But there’s a group right here in Oregon working to change that in a practical, positive way.

Nutrition Inside is a team of young leaders is taking perfectly good surplus food, food that would otherwise go to waste, and redirecting it to people who need it most, including those inside correctional facilities. At a time when up to 40% of food in the U.S. is wasted each year, the opportunity is clear. Instead of letting that food disappear, they’re turning it into something meaningful: meals that bring dignity, nutrition, and a sense of care to people who often don’t receive it.

The mission is simple: make sure everyone, inside and out, has access to nourishing food. It supports farmers, reduces waste, and creates real impact where it’s needed most. If you’re looking for a way to help locally, this is one of those efforts where your support directly translates into something tangible. A meal, a moment of care, and a reminder that no one is forgotten.
