I Know That Song! See If You Can Guess From Hawkeye's Version Of It

Hey, welcome to our little game, I Know That Song! Each morning at 7:10 on K103 we give you some fun facts you may not know about some of the biggest songs we play. Today's song is one of the biggest songs EVER.

Today’s Grammy-winning hit love song qualified for Diamond status in 2017 when it achieved sales and streams exceeding 10 million, becoming just the 15th song ever to surpass that mark since the certification was created 20 years ago.

In October 2015, the song became the first to be streamed over 500 million times and has been viewed more than 3.0 billion times on YouTube as of May 2020.

Despite all that success, the song also gave today’s star expensive headaches as he was hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit in 2016 that claimed that today’s song is a rip-off of Marvin Gaye’s famous love song “Let’s Get It On”. That case was dismissed, but the same group came after him again two years later.

This is not the only song of his to be scrutinized in court. Back in 2015, his single “Photograph” was the focus of an intense legal battle that resulted in this singer adding two credited songwriters. They claimed it was copied “note-for-note” from a song they wrote for X-Factor winner Matt Cardle.

In addition, he also had a $5 million lawsuit against him for a song he wrote for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

On the way, we will tell you the unusual connection this song has to the Avenger’s franchise

In 2015 on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, actor Jeremy Renner, who plays Hawkeye in the Avengers movies, performed on piano and sang a song called "Hawkeye Sings About His Super Powers."

While not parodying today’s lyrics, it is sung to the same tune. In the song, Hawkeye feels defensive compared with the other Avengers as he was the only mortally human member in a team of superhuman or enhanced heroes.

Today’s artist has sold over 150 million records worldwide and since July 2015, he has been in a relationship with childhood friend Cherry Seaborn.

They married in January 2018 and she is the inspiration of the song "Perfect". But today’s song, one of Ed Sheeran’s many, many hits is “Thinking Out Loud”...I Know That Song!
