I Know That Song! The One That Went #1 Despite Cringy Video

When Jay-Z signed today’s singer to Def Jam in 2005, he probably did not anticipate how big of a force she'd truly become. The Barbadian singer and entrepreneur has become a worldwide phenomenon, having sold over 60 million albums and 215 million digital singles.

Her selling power has made her the top-digital selling artist of all time, and she's been awarded 8 Grammys for her singles and albums.

Among those Grammy award wins is today’s song, which, like any good song has to have a good music video to accompany it, but her video for today’s song was initially not well-received because it depicted a toxic relationship between her and a Chris Brown-look alike.

The video documented the highs and lows of a shall we say, ‘toxic’ relationship, and because of this singer’s highly publicized abuse at the hands of Chris Brown in 2009, fans and critics alike were concerned about her reenacting the abuse.

Despite that controversy, the video did not hurt the success of this song: it became her longest running number one single. It was the singer's eleventh song to top the Hot 100, placing her in third place for female singers with the most number one singles.

It is the 27th most successful single of all time in the US, with over 15 million copies sold worldwide.

When today’s singer, AKA Robyn Fenty, launched her Fenty Beauty line in 2017, she created a cosmetics company that made “women everywhere feel included”. The beauty line, along with her stake in her lingerie company, and her earnings from her career as a chart-topping musician and actress, have helped her enter one of the world’s most exclusive clubs: Billionaire.

According to Forbes, she is now worth $1.7 billion, making her the wealthiest female musician in the world and second only to Oprah Winfrey as the richest female entertainer.
