Between the barbecues, beach trips, and blockbuster movie releases, many people think of Memorial Day as the unofficial start of summer. But it’s also important to take time to honor the military men and women who have died while serving our country. A National Moment of Remembrance is a minute-long pause meant to raise awareness of and commemorate those who served and died. All Major League Baseball games halt, Amtrak train whistles sound across the country, and hundreds of other nationwide participants remind Americans to pause for the Memorial Day National Moment of Remembrance at 3pm local time on Monday.
This Friday evening, the Rose Festival’s CityFair starts—with fireworks. There will also be live music, vendors, carnival rides, and food and drink, all at the Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Opening ribbon cutting is at 5pm, fireworks begin at 9:50pm, with music going straight through the fireworks.
The Multnomah County Fair is going down at Oaks Park.

If you’re planning a weekend hike at Multnomah Falls, you will need to hop online first and get your timed entry permit which are technically free but cost $2 to purchase online at recreation.gov. They’re made available up to 14 days in advance now through Labor Day.
From this Friday to June 8th, the Portland Bloom Tour brings together local florists, artists and retailers to craft breathtaking floral displays and art installations throughout the city. This year, there are more than 40 creations on display. There’s lots to see in Portland’s Downtown, Old Town and Lloyd District. FYI: The Portland tram will close for maintenance during the holiday weekend. The tram, that runs from South Waterfront to OHSU, will stop running at 7 p.m. tomorrow and resume operations at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The wheels that move the cable will be replaced and the tram carriages will be rebuilt. Shuttle buses will run in place of the tram.
