Stacey & Mike's K103 Things To Do This Weekend July 11-13

Enough with the video games and screens. Summer's flying by, pack up the car and take a fun family field trip. If you have enough room, have the kiddos bring a friend and make a whole day of it. Here are Stacey's Sumer Fun Family Field Trips.

Portland's largest street fair is going down on North Mississippi Avenue. Saturday July 12 it closes down for a day of food, vendors & music and fun and Portland's largest street fair, Mississippi Street Fair. This year, the fair will have 3 music stages, Kids Zone and hundreds of vendors.

Mt Hood Skibowl has once again transformed into a Summer Adventure Park with racecars, ziplines and the beloved alpine slide. Not to mention the hiking trails that emerge from the snowmelt and the ski lift that gets rebranded to the “sky chair” for the season.

Topaz Farm is excited to announce the 2025 Americana Harvest Fest series. The festival features a mix of nationally and internationally known folk, country, and bluegrass artists. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy live music on the farm. While on Sauvie Island there is much more to do. The island is known for its sandy beaches along the Columbia River, perfect for swimming and picnicking. It also features numerous farms where visitors can pick their own berries, pumpkins, and other produce, or enjoy seasonal events like corn mazes. Birdwatchers can spot a variety of migratory birds, cranes, and eagles at the Sauvie Island Wildlife Area.

The annual Helvetia Lavender Festival will be held the first two weekends in July: Friday through Sunday. This popular and well-known mid-summer family activity is located in the beautiful hills of Helvetia, just off Sunset Highway (Exit 61)

This feels like the weekend to visit the ice cream capital of Oregon. The Richmond neighborhood, a stretch of Division between Southeast 50th and Southeast 29th has five of the best loved ice cream shops in town. A sixth is found just blocks away. Eb & Bean, Salt & Straw, Kate’s Ice Cream, Pinolo Gelato, Cornet Custard and 50 licks nearby on SE Clinton. And for the furry ones in the car, it's Pup Cup season, small ups of plain whipped cream for your pet to enjoy. Starbucks is famous for its Puppaccinos, there are at least 18 other places that offer similar treats including McDonald's, Chick-fil-A, Dunkin, Baskin Robbins, Rita’s Italian Ice, Wendy’s and Dairy Queen…but not guaranteed at every location.

Kickstand Comedy In The Park is back for the summer every Friday at Laurelhurst Park.

Special Olympics Oregon is returning to Oregon State University this weekend for its annual Summer State Games. It’s the state championships for Special Olympics athletes in Oregon across a number of sports including track & field, bocce, golf, and softball. Athletes typically train for a minimum of eight weeks at home and advance through regional-level competitions around the state. More at SOOR dot org.

Portland Parks & Rec Summer Free For All continues. Outdoor movies this weekend include: Guardians of the Galaxy Thursday July 10 at Elizabeth Caruthers Park and The Sandlot Friday at Overlook Park. And if it's culture and music you're looking for Portland Opera has Opera a la Cart: Building Blocks of Opera to children and families in select area parks.

Go see Portland's Cutest BABY, Tula Tu, at the Oregon Zoo. She's quite the sensation. And if you can visit on a Friday evening you'll get to experience the whole zoo with live music, food and drinks. ZOO Nights are every Friday through August 22.

Superman is out in theaters. Can David Corenswet step into this huge role? Critics are calling it a "Bold New Take," mixing heart and action—BuzzWorthy Radio gave it an 8/10, praising its balance of nostalgia, humor, and emotional depth. Fans who've seen early screenings can't stop talking about Krypto, the SuperDog. Stacey and Mike both watched with their kids and give it all the stars.

"Live Aid: When Rock 'n' Roll Took on the World." LIVE AID turns 40 this weekend! The 4 part documentary of one of the greatest moments in music history, debuts on CNN Sunday at 9pm. After debuting on CNN, episodes will be available on-demand via CNN’s platforms.

Stacey: The Fall starring Jamie Dornan and Jillian Anderson. It's pretty dark but really well done, and honestly it's nice to watch something that isn't over in 5 episodes!
