That old joke about dogs and mailmen not getting along just got a nice rewrite, thanks to a Texas letter carrier named Ian Burke and a lovable pup named Floyd.
The two first met on Burke’s mail route three years ago and over time, they became fast friends, with Burke regularly stopping to give Floyd pets, hugs, and scratches.
When Floyd’s owner, a wheelchair-bound Vietnam veteran, passed away, Floyd suddenly went to a local shelter. So Burke didn’t hesitate: he was first in line the moment Floyd became available for adoption, and just like that, the two were reunited for good.
Burke is known for handing out treats to the dogs and cats on his route, and hopes their story inspires others to adopt a shelter animal. Because if a mailman and a “gangster” dog can find their happily-ever-after, there’s hope for everyone.
