In Vancouver, B.C., a love story took an unexpected turn when Steve Van Ysseldyk went digging through 18 tons of garbage to find his wife Jeannine’s missing wedding and anniversary rings.
After realizing the jewelry had likely been tossed out with spilled popcorn from the night before, Steve refused to give up. With the help of a landfill contractor and an excavator, he sifted through heaps of garbage until he spotted a familiar popcorn bag. Within the hour, to the surprise of the garbage staff, both rings reappeared, slimy but safe.
Jeannine broke down in happy tears when she got the call that her precious rings were back. To her, their 26-year marriage is now stronger than ever because if a man is willing to dig through a stinky compost pile for love, you know it’s the real thing.
