While visiting Chicago’s Millennium Park, Michigan traveler Lavonne Schaafsma suddenly realized her purse with her ID, credit cards, medications, and cash, was gone.
Panic washed over her as she retraced her steps, until something nudged her to stop into a nearby gift shop and ask if anyone had turned it in.
As it happened, two women had spotted her purse on a bench, and a man rifled through it.
They confronted him, pretended the purse was theirs, and literally wrestled it away before bringing it to the shop and waiting for the owner to return.
They never met Lavonne, but they saved her hours of stress and a mountain of anxiety and she says she often thinks about their courage and asks herself, “What small act of kindness am I willing to do for someone I don’t even know?”
