A rescue effort in Melbourne Beach, FLA turned into a heartwarming mission when crews discovered an adult male manatee stuck inside a storm drain.
Officials believe he may have wandered into the pipe while searching for warmer water during a recent cold snap.
Survey workers carefully removed the drain cover, drilled into the roadway, and lifted a section of concrete to widen the opening, all while keeping a close eye on the trapped sea cow below.
After several tense hours, crews successfully lifted the manatee out of the drain and into safety.
He has since been transported to SeaWorld Orlando for rehabilitation, where experts will monitor his health and help him recover.
