Diane Bennett, in upstate NY, is in the middle of a tough battle with stage three breast cancer. On her final day of chemotherapy, she wanted to do something kind for the staff at New York Oncology Hematology in Amsterdam who had cared for her.
She ordered two cupcake cakes from a Walmart in Wilton as a thank you. But when she arrived to pick them up, she noticed something surprising on the box: they were already paid for.
Thinking it had to be a mistake, Diane went back to the bakery counter, only to learn that a stranger had covered the $50 bill and left a simple message of congratulations.
A few days later, Diane returned to the store and discovered the mystery donor was actually a bakery employee who preferred to remain anonymous.
The two shared a heartfelt moment outside the store, complete with hugs and tears. Diane, who faces surgery and six weeks of radiation next, says the unexpected kindness lifted her spirits during an incredibly difficult time.
