An Alabama man recently celebrated his 80th birthday by finally cashing in on a restaurant deal that promised “free oysters to any man 80 years old accompanied by his father.”
For decades, Jimmy Rush and his family joked about whether they would ever be able to pull it off. But when Jimmy turned 80, he walked into the restaurant with the one person who could make the offer real, his 99 year old dad, Jim.
The moment turned into a celebration, with about 60 family members and friends gathering to watch Jimmy finally claim the dozen oysters that had been promised since the 1930s.
Even the restaurant staff said no one had ever managed to meet the challenge before. The family says they are already planning to try again when Jimmy’s brother turns 80 in a couple of years.
