Stacey & Mike's Happy News: Harbor Seal's Best Friend Is A Rubber Duckie

You didn’t know you needed this in your life until you saw it: a harbor seal named Reggae at the New England Aquarium absolutely smitten with a little yellow rubber duck.

The aquarium shared video of the 33-year-old Atlantic harbor seal cuddling it, kissing it, and playing with it, and people instantly fell in love.

What might look like pure cuteness, and it definitely is, is also part of the aquarium’s enrichment program, giving the animals new things to explore and interact with throughout the day.

Aquarium staff say these toys are more than just fun. They help challenge the seals and give them a chance to use their natural curiosity and problem-solving skills.

Reggae lives with four other seals in a habitat designed to resemble the rocky New England coast, and the unusual objects placed around their environment help keep life interesting and engaging.
