On Sunday in West Seattle, something wonderfully weird and kind of beautiful happened… people gathered for a full-on funeral…for a Taco Bell that closed decades ago. And they committed.
We’re talking bagpipes leading a procession, a 21-bell salute, and even a crying contest for good measure. Locals showed up dressed in black, some in full dramatic fashion, bringing flowers, candles, and over-the-top “offerings” like tacos and sauce packets.
But what made it special wasn’t just the humor…it was the community. Hundreds of people came together to celebrate shared memories, late-night runs, and a place that meant something at a certain time in their lives.
It was lighthearted, creative, and a reminder that people will absolutely show up for something unexpected if it brings a little joy and connection.
