A longtime New York TV reporter is getting a second chance at life thanks to an incredible act of generosity from one of her own viewers.
Former News 12 reporter Amy McGorry, who has spent years battling two chronic autoimmune liver diseases, recently learned she has found a perfect living liver donor match.
The donor was inspired to step forward after seeing News 12’s coverage of Amy’s health struggle and quietly went through the testing process without telling her at first.
Amy says her health took a serious turn earlier this year when she began suffering fainting spells and internal bleeding, leading doctors to urgently recommend a liver transplant.
Then came the life changing phone call: the anonymous viewer was a perfect match. Amy later shared the emotional news with her former newsroom, and now her transplant surgery is scheduled for June.
