Stacey & Mike's K103 Things To Do This Memorial Day Weekend

We are all excited about the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. It’s the unofficial kickoff of summer with family bbq's and get togethers but also an important reminder to take a moment and honor troops who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice and died in the line of duty. You can volunteer to leave flags on military members’ graves. More than 140,000 flags will be placed at Willamette National Cemetery Friday evening at 6pm in east Portland. Oregon-based U.S. Air Force F-15 Eagles will be doing flyovers, 1,000 feet above ground at 400 mph, over select community ceremonies. Some cities (Klamath FallsPrinevilleReedsportSeasideWasco) still maintain the tradition of a full-fledged parade, going back to the founding of Memorial Day.

Portland Rose Festival kicks off Friday at Waterfront Park with City Fair. Come for the rides, the food, the music and stay for the fireworks! Parade goers plans are a little different this year. The Junior parade has been moved to a Saturday, May 30, so kids don't have to miss school to be there. The Grand Floral Parade and the Starlight Parade are combining for one night time spectacular; The Care Oregon Grand Floral Starlight Parade on Saturday June 6. The first half will be the Grand Floral portion followed by the Starlight portion.

When was the last time you stopped and really appreciated a piece of art? People who enjoy spending time visiting art galleries like The Portland Art Museum, the theatre like The Keller for Mama Mia, or other artistic venues like this weekends Vanport Mosaic Festial at least once a week were about a year younger, biologically, than people who rarely made time for the artsy stuff.

The Multnomah County Fair is at Oaks Park. So of course you have the fair food and rides but add in the adorable Dachshund Races, Portland Lucha Libre wrestling, and robotic team competitions.

Come one, come all gamers, cosplayers, local artists and fans to the first ever Westside Comic Con in Hillsboro.

Bloom Tour PDX is back for the 4th year. Vibrant storefront displays, interactive floral creations, and immersive art, all designed to celebrate the beauty of spring and support Portland’s small businesses. The kick off event is this Friday at 11 AM at Director Park with a live fashion show and Salt & Straw will be scooping three flavors from its May Flowers Series.

Join Lan Su to celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month.

The new library in Gresham, which just opened last weekend is huge (95,000 sq ft!) and resembles the wood architecture of our newly updated airport. Imagine it will be a very popular place to cool off in the air conditioning during the hot days of summer.

The Timbers are home at Providence Park 6:30pm Saturday against San Jose Earthquakes.

If you're venturing out AAA says 39 million people will travel by car over the holiday weekend. The worst times to travel will be during the afternoons Thursday the 21st and Friday the 22nd, as well as Monday afternoon for returns. Expect peak congestion from noon-9pm on Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, and then again from noon to 5 p.m. on Monday.
