Rick Springfield is someone I've adored since I was wearing retainers and kissing his poster nightly. He's coming back to perform in Portland April 12 at the Schnitz and I'm hoping to score tickets to see him again. So reading this makes me sad but also I think it's amazing for him to reveal his feelings so openly, hopefully it will help others who suffer to not feel so alone.
Rick says he's thought of suicide his whole life and even attempted it as a teenager but failed with the rope he used as a noose broke. Referring to the recent suicides of Chester Bennington, Chris Cornell and Robin Williams he said, "I didnât go, 'Oh thatâs terrible.' I went, 'I get it.' I get being that lost and dark."
Meditation is his saving grace and the one thing that really helps him. Sending so much love to you Rick. Thank you for sharing yourself and your music with us.
