It’s official: Chunk, a massive brown bear weighing in at an estimated 1,200 pounds, finally claimed his crown in Alaska’s beloved Fat Bear Week.
After three years of being the runner-up, Bear 32, as he’s officially known, beat out rival Bear 856 to take the title and drew more than 1.5 million votes this year.
Chunk’s win is even more impressive considering his broken jaw — likely from a past fight, but he still managed to pack on the pounds and earn the top spot.
Rangers say around 200,000 salmon made their way upriver this fall, leaving fishing spots so plentiful that even humans were casting lines alongside the bears.
