Where to go and what to do with Mom this Sunday? If you're lucky enough to have mom close by there are many options around Portland.
Of course there's Doggy Dash for Dog moms Saturday at Waterfront Park. This is Oregon Humane Society's biggest fundraiser of the year. We will will see you at the starting line.
This sounds lovely, Silver Falls State Park is hosting their annual Mother's Day Birding and Wildflower Festival. Or the Rose Gardens at Washington Park. Or even better what if you took mom to the nursery to pick out her favorite flowers and then you do the digging and planting back home?
There's also a walking tour/floral show called Portland Bloom. Local florists have teamed up with nearly 30 businesses downtown, in Old Town and the Central Eastside to create spectacular, large, one-of-a-kind floral arrangements. The floral displays will remain in place through June 11th. You'll find a list of the locations on the Visit Downtown Instagram and Facebook sites.
The Portland Spirit Mother’s Day Cruise
How about High Tea time at the Victorian Belle?
How about a snow cone and corndog and a ride on rollercoaster (not in that order) on a summer-like day in Portland? Oaks Park is giving Moms a free Ride Bracelet with the purchase of a Ride Bracelet for their child! (Must request the Mother's Day Special at the Ticket Booth. Deal not available online.)
Cheer on the Portland Thorns as they host the Seattle Reign Saturday at 7pm, Providence Park. Sunday it's The Timbers vs. Seattle Sounders FC at 1:30 PM
Walk with or in honor of a special woman in your life at the yearly Reigning Roses Walk Sunday. A Mother’s Day tradition that helps to raise funds to support thousands of women and children in need, organized by the Rose Haven Day Shelter, a former Helping Hands recipient.
If she loves to shop, dozens of local designers and artists will be set up at Unique Markets Portland, in Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Check out their cool Look Book for a sneak peek!
The Hippie Chick Half Marathon is Saturday at Champoeg State Park. There's also a quarter marathon, 5k and kid's half-mile race for Mother's Day weekend. This female-focused event is designed to celebrate how amazing women are. Grab your mom, sister, friend, or co-worker and register to run through Oregon's scenic countryside.
Oregon Wine Month continues. Visit mom's favorite winery or tasting room. Maybe a do a wine tour or host your own wine tasting at home.
Speaking of wine country, McMinnville is having some fun his Saturday afternoon, take your mom to a pop-up called Thanks, Mom. It’s a market with very special, hand-picked local makers. It’s happening right in the heart of downtown McMinnville from 11 AM to 3 PM.
A fun outing (and great photo op) is Hopscotch Portland. We have both taken our teenagers, it's pretty cool.
Look for activities that showcase who your mom is, what she’s meant to you, and what she loves. Steal some of these:
- Create a mom time capsule full of happy memories
- Have a fun picnic at a park or the backyard with games like croquet or bocci ball
- Serve mom brunch in bed. Or at Mother's Bistro!
- Prepare a special dessert
- Host a mom themed scavenger hunt
- Start a new tradition
- Make gratitude jar of all the things your grateful to mom for
- Trace your family tree
- Plan a surprise
- Make a mom favorites cookbook
- Recreate a favorite memory
- Go to the movies like Stacey and her boys are doing. All mom's love Ryan Gosling right?
- Have littles? They could make pipe cleaner flower bouquets, finger paint flower pots and so many other precious things.
And in the words of Mark Wahlberg, "Say hi to your mother for me"
